DAY: On choosing our next president
We need to know everything about each candidate
By RAY DAY
Tribune guest columnist
Occasionally I feel like putting a chip on my shoulder and then start doing some jawing about how things are running, and how they should be run. Voting for our president is one that gets in my craw and, today, I will embark on that subject. Remember, this is my opinion only and you can use it with a grain of salt if you want.
We have many people who want to be our president, and they are spending a lot of money to get that nomination by the respective parties. Some of these guys, I never heard of before and that is a point of interest to dwell upon. If a man or women wants to be our president, we, the people he or she will represent, need to know everything about them.
Now, I am a private person and I like it that way, but I am not running for president, so let’s keep it that way. However, we need to know everything about those people, because we don’t want some doors opening later and find out that he or she is a wolf in sheep’s clothing.
We sure don’t need to find out that his deck of cards are ones that will lay in a drawer until it is time to show his or her hand and the table is theirs, lock, stock and barrel. If those who intend to represent us want to keep their door closed to the public, than maybe behind those doors there is a threat to our country and to the world.
Why wouldn’t a prospective top dog want his story told before someone is dumb enough to take his word for it? That position is the most important one in our nation, and it has to have open doors to everything about him or her so that we, the voters, know what we are doing in placing him or her in the hot seat. We don’t want to find out after the fact, because then it is too late to do anything about it.
As to all that money being spent to get out the word that these candidates have, do you think it is money well spent when you hear only what they want you to hear? It is terrible that a politician can throw his or her money around along with the money given to them to help get elected. You give money, you expect favors and that shouldn’t be the way our system works.
As to the primaries, many times a good man for the job will drop out because of the way that they got votes in those primaries and they will back another candidate that did get a good showing. What does that say about the rest of the states who might of wanted to vote for the one who dropped out? I guess our vote just doesn’t mean anything. Or does it?
You have to make up your own mind about that. I voted for the present man in that top spot because I thought he had some great convictions and our country needed someone to boost us up so that we could stand on our own. The jury is still out on that one, folks, and probably it will be deadlocked.
What I want to see is for our country to be ours and not leased out to foreign factions. I want our big wheels who took our factories overseas to bring them back to our shores. I want to see that everyone has a chance to get well without spending a fortune for pills that only cost way less than a dollar to make. I want to see more of the millionaires giving to those right here in our country who need it worse than those in other countries.
If you feed a lion, expect it to turn on you as soon as it is an opportune time to do so. Take care of our own first and then help someone else. The ball is in play, but the referees need to watch the action very close. Time to close my book of opinions for today. Did I make a point?
