County gymnasts shine in state meet

RUSSIAVILLE — Seven Howard County athletes won individual state titles and two others were members of an age group team championship in the Levels 3 and 4 State Meet held over the weekend at Western High School.

Kristen May, Katherine Clevenger, Taylor Coram, Shayla Hall and Jenna Landseadel won individual age group state titles as members of the Kokomo Flipsters. Annie Boytim and Kirsten Randall teamed with Hall to claim the 10-year-old age group crown.

Osha Hall of Kokomotion and Kaitlin Groothuis, who trains with Gymnaworld of Noblesville, claimed state championships as well.

In all, 454 gymnasts from 31 teams competed. DeVeaus Gymnastics of Fishers won the team championship, just ahead of the second place Kokomo Flipsters.

May, Clevenger and Coram were triple winners. At Level 3, May won state titles in vault, beam and all-around, while Clevenger took firsts in bars, beam and all-around. Coram won her three titles at Level 4, winning bars, floor and all-around.

Shayla Hall and Osha Hall won all-around state championships at Level 4 and Landseadel took first in bars.

Groothuis’ two state championships came at Level 3. She took firsts in floor and all-around.
