Resident tilts at wind farms
One would like to think that we are all focused on ways to improve our communities and our planet. I support the research and use of renewable sources of energy within means.
Have we become so focused on achieving the next best alternative that we have lost a grip with common sense? How well has the ethanol approach worked? Anyone see a problem with using our food sources for fuel? Maybe, in the end, it’s all about money?
Our rural community is faced with the possibility of being surrounded by 120 turbines (each 300 feet tall), aka a wind farm.
The term does sound cute, however, if you take a little time to research the so-called tranquil objects, you might find yourself a little overwhelmed.
I believe that these farms do have a place, however, I do not believe that they should be forced upon towns and rural communities without the unanimous approval of said communities.
Are there actual benefits? Yes, but let’s also remember that a salesman has one job to accomplish, and that is to sell you their product. The only difference between a vacuum and a wind farm is that you can hide the vacuum in the closet.
Maybe I have become a modern day Don Quixote, and I am the only one concerned with battling these invading giants from my home. As I age, I might find myself like Don Quixote, disillusioned and abandoning all things chivalrous.
But, tonight, I don a suit of armor, a makeshift helmet, and rename myself Don Quixote de la Mancha and ride off on my trusty steed, Rocinante, in search of others to take up arms against these towering beasts. Tomorrow, I awake a concerned citizen.

Axle strike has ripple effect
I would like to highlight for the members of the UAW, whose union brothers and sisters are striking against American Axle, the ripple effect of their brothers’ strike.
To most of your readers, this will be a matter of, “Duh!” But to those who choose to call it a matter of principle and solidarity, perhaps your solidarity will help put food on the tables of your brothers in Fort Wayne, Flint, Moraine, Pontiac, Wentzville, Mishawaka and few other plants around the country affected by their strike. According to an article in this paper, that number of brothers is around 15,000.
While I would not advocate not living by principle, over feelings and whims, one has to wonder if the mostly angry proponents of the union, such as you hear on a local radio station once a week, really have a grip on reality and the truth of economics? In fact, the bill Mr. Kennedy of Massachusetts is pushing to force union members to have to declare openly carries with it the squashing of free speech, not the spread of same. Intimidation rarely causes one to openly, honestly opine.

Fighting sister Woman of Year
Recently, I nominated my sister, Lisa Jill Haller, to be Woman of the Year for Indiana. Over 200 entries came in, and she has made the cut to the final 10.
You can go to indianapoliswoy.com and vote for her once per day until March 31. Her charity that she is trying to raise money for from winning this is the American Cancer Society.
Jill is on her fourth cancer and doing remarkably well. To me, she is unique because she seems to have an unbelievable urge to beat the odds and survive. I am sure you all know others just like her that take the challenges that life has put before us and do their best to overcome life’s roadblocks.
All these fighters should become Person of the Year, but my sister has the chance to win this contest. So if you have the time, please vote for her daily. Thank you.

Why no coverage of Heller case?
I’m trying to justify my business with the Tribune. You are showing your true colors with blinding illumination.
Why didn’t you cover the recent Supreme Court case about the Second Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, “Heller vs. D.C.?”
Even the liberal and radical-left leaning USA Today made mention on its front with a large article within, to its credit.
You guys had better get your heads screwed on right or there will be no Kokomo Tribune.
