Tipton boy drowns at Hidden Lake

FAIRMOUNT (AP) — Indiana conservation officers are investigating the drowning deaths of a 4-year-old boy and a 19-year-old man in separate incidents.

Investigators say 4-year-old Mason C. Phifer of Tipton drowned while playing in the water with his sisters and a friend Sunday afternoon at the Hidden Lake Campground near Fairmount. Divers found the boy’s body in eight feet of water. There was no lifeguard on duty at the small lake.

Meanwhile, officers are investigating the drowning of a 19-year-old Avon man at Raccoon Lake in Parke County. His body was found Sunday night in about 15 feet of water about 150 feet from shore. Officers say he was swimming in an area that was closed due to high water. Investigators have not released his name, pending notification of relatives.
