Wife charged with stabbing husband

Sandra Pickett faces multiple charges in incident

By MIKE FLETCHER
Tribune staff writer

A Howard County woman remains jailed after allegedly attacking her husband during a family fight Thursday evening.

Deputies were called to a home in the 5000 block of Algonquin Trail in Indian Heights shortly after 5 p.m. on a report of a domestic disturbance.

There, deputies learned that Terry L. Pickett, 61, had been stabbed in both arms with a large kitchen knife allegedly by his wife, Sandra K. Pickett, 57, according to the sheriff department.

Sandra Pickett faces one count of criminal recklessness and one count of domestic battery.

Her husband was transported by family members to Howard Regional Health System, where he was treated and released.

Sandra Pickett also was transported by ambulance to Howard Regional, where she required treatment for a laceration to her right hand prior to being incarcerated. She apparently was intoxicated and cut herself while breaking out several windows at the residence, according to police.

When deputies arrived at the scene, they found Sandra Pickett being restrained by her daughter, who also suffered several scratches during the scuffle. She did not require medical treatment.

A portable breath test indicated her blood alcohol level was more than twice the legal limit, said Sheriff Marty Talbert. Deputies Steve Seele, Shane Gibson and Cpl. Stacy Wines are investigating the disturbance.

Deputies were assisted at the scene by emergency medical personnel from the Taylor Township Fire Department and paramedics from Howard Regional Health System.
