Dr. Peter Kamanja Kimani, 55, Kokomo, a citizen of Kenya, died Monday, Oct. 6, 2008. Peter was born May 23, 1953, to Gakenia and Kimani Kamanja. Peter married Patrice Darcel Beard on Nov. 27, 2002, at Fountain of Life Worship Center.
Dr. Peter was a member of Chenaniah Ministries.
Dr. Peter Kimani committed his life to Christ in 1969 in a full gospel church and was called into the ministry in 1971. He served as an evangelist, pastor, a general secretary, and an overseer of 3,200 Baptist churches of Kenya. Dr. Peter Kimani was an economist, teacher, chemist, food scientist, broadcaster, a psychologist, and theologian. He had been involved in the growth of the church. He lectured in the fields of Psychology in Education, and Religion, Philosophy of Religion, Church administration, Homiletics and Hermeneutics. He has several degrees which includes two terminal degrees, D.Div. and a Ph.D.
Peter is survived by his wife, Patrice; his children, Anny Polk, Victoria Kamanja, Samuel Kamanja, Grace (Joshua), Stella Kamanja, Daniel Kamanja, and Victor Kamanja; and stepson, Kyle Beard. He is also survived by brothers-in-law, Kenneth (Susie) Gaines, Anthony (Donna) Beard and Marcus Beard; sisters-in-law, Narissa (Bud) Gibson and Renee (Morris) Akins; his in-laws, Martin and Dorris Beard.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Kamau and Thuku; a sister, Nyawira; and brother-in-law Kevin Beard.
Funeral services are at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Shirley & Stout Funeral Home, Lincoln Road Chapel, 1315 W. Lincoln Road. Friends may call from 4 p.m. until service time at the funeral home. Pastor Vance Collins will be officiating.
