Wait until next year

It was difficult getting out of bed Monday. And it wasn’t because we were worn out from watching the NFL Network until the wee hours of the morning.

The Colts lost 31-17 to New Orleans in Super Bowl XLIV Sunday night.

We didn’t want to talk about Pierre Garcon’s dropped pass in the second quarter. We didn’t want to re-live the Saints’ on-side kick to open the second half, or admit we knew the game was lost after Matt Stover missed the 51-yard field goal early in the fourth quarter.

To borrow a line from one of our favorite children’s books, Monday indeed was a terrible, horrible, no-good, very bad day – and one we should celebrate.

Too often, we take for granted a good job until it’s gone. We don’t appreciate our families until we lose a loved one.

Loss is an important part of life. It gives it meaning. It makes us grateful for what we have. It makes us better.

So, today, we say, there’s always next year.
