Cheers & Jeers - Friday, March 8, 2008

‘Thank-you to great service’

Sandy Lyons of Westfield Insurance of Ohio sends this Cheer for the folks at McKee’s Tire & Auto Repair:

“On Tuesday, March 4, I was traveling on business with my manager to several towns in the Indianapolis area. We drove all day in the ice storm, and then had a flat tire just as we drove into the city of Kokomo at 1 p.m.

“We were referred to McKee’s Tire & Auto Repair to replace the tire so we could continue on our way. Instead of sending out a tow truck to begin with, they sent someone over to just blow the tire up temporarily so we could drive the half-mile to their service station.

“They didn’t have a tire to match our vehicle and advised us they would need to put on two new tires in the front of the car. We stated we were from out of town and it was a company car and we had a company credit card, so we didn’t care what it cost but we needed to get back on the road as soon as possible and we needed to be safe.

“The serviceman came out and stated the tire was repaired with a plug and the charge was only $8! He stated it was as safe or safer than buying new tires, and he was finished within five minutes. We were floored! What customer service!

“They were honest, they were fast and they were correct, as we completed our travels and arrived safely back in Ohio the next day.

“We have shared this story with everyone along our route, and they have all been as impressed as we were with this group of individuals and how they are trained so successfully in customer service.

“A big thank-you to great service in a small town by McKee’s Tire & Auto Repair at 2105 N. Washington St.”

Isn’t that pornography?

Paul D. Eccles of Kokomo sends this Jeer for Sports Illustrated:

“As I walked into my drug store today, that I frequently visit, I saw something which nearly knocked me off my feet. What I saw was the Sports Illustrated issue. The cover on top had a woman with no clothing on, except for beads. Some may not find this offensive. I did.

“Since I was a usual customer, I felt I had a right to complain. The manager on duty would not take the complaint (possibly because she agreed). So I was sent on up to another, who said it was there because the company told him to put it there.

“Later that evening, I went to Penny Saver and checked there. At Penny Saver on Apperson, another place I often go to, I was pleased to see that there was no Sports Illustrated. I let them know I was glad about that. The clerk there told me it had to do with big corporations, and that at most stores, they (magazines) were covered up.

“The question one must ask is whether the model on front is pornography? Because, if it is, is it no different than Playboy? Such magazines must be kept back from open space by law.

“These moral laws are made for a reason. If a family cannot walk into a store such as Walgreens for fear that their child will be exposed to pornography, then the store needs to be closed down.”

Surprise was appreciated

Amy Henderson of Kokomo sends this Cheer to an anonymous utility worker:

“This is a big Cheer to a local utility employee who went above and beyond!

“Last Tuesday, I was shoveling the heavy snow and slush off my driveway when a gentleman stopped and finished the job for me! What a wonderful surprise and so appreciated.

“I grew up here in town and my family moved back last spring after almost a decade in Indianapolis. Things like this are why we wanted to raise our children here in Kokomo.

“I don’t want this gentleman to get in trouble with his employer, but I want him to know we appreciated his kindness very much!”
