Cheers & Jeers - Saturday, March 22, 2008

Post Office serves customers first

Jim Watkins of Russiaville sends this Cheer to the Kokomo Post Office:

“I wanted to take a moment to recognize a few people whom I had the pleasure of working with at the Post Office on Webster Street in Kokomo. Postmaster Larry Melton and Floretta Kratzer in Delivery Services went about and beyond in helping me facilitate a solution to an issue I had at the Post Office.

“Mrs. Kratzer took all my information on March 7 and informed me Mr. Melton would be in contact with me on March 10. I received a call on Monday morning and discussed the issue with Mr. Melton.

“I must say Larry’s only focus was making sure he could do whatever it took to fulfill my needs. He took all the information and informed me he had to speak with a person in Processing. He promptly called me back and informed me the Post Office would do everything within its means to make sure my mailing got delivered.

“The customer service I received was very prompt, courteous and beyond my expectation. I am very appreciative of Larry and Floretta’s commitment to helping me in solving the problem I had.”

Peru needs a skate park

Gary Bunnell sends this Jeer for Peru Mayor Jim Walker:

“Just last year, all the folks in Peru read articles written by me to our mayor about a skate park for our kids. Well, look in Peru’s paper March 18 and see what Wabash has done for its children.

“Mayor, all your talk, talk, talk leads to nowhere for our kids.

“You told me yourself you would look into it, but did you do anything? All is done over here in our town is police write out a citation for skaters. Or they confiscate their boards.

“I’d say boo to you, mayor, for not doing something for our youth on skates. You need a new jail like you need another hole in your head. Why is it other communities do for their children?

“Why does Mr. Policeman have to issue citations for our kids? There is more to making a small town a happy place to live than cutting ribbons on some new street (which leads to nowhere) or kissing babies.

“The Wabash police can concentrate on bad stuff, not evil skaters like our finest do. Logansport (Riverside Park) even has a skate park. Why, mayor, why don’t we? Why?

“Wonder what our youth thinks of you, tomorrow’s future?”

‘A pleasure knowing all of you’

Albert F. Worth Jr. of Kokomo sends this Cheer for Kokomo:

“I’m writing this letter to thank those I’ve gotten to know here in Kokomo for their friendship, their kindness and their overall hospitality. It’s truly been a pleasure knowing all of you. However, it’s become such a financial expense to live here. I am forced to move in with family back east to avoid further financial hardship.

“I want to take this opportunity to also thank Rhino Taxi Service for their friendly service and excellent fare prices. I applaud their ‘first city ridership’ program, which saved me quite a bit of money over time. And lastly, I want to express my thanks for the fine neighbors and friends I’ve made in the Bon Air Trailer Park off North Apperson Way.

“I also wish to thank Howard County Behavioral Health for their superior therapy in my time of need. Their bereavement group is the best group I’ve ever participated in, and their cognitive depression group is just awesome. I have grown stronger and wiser for my time participating. I leave Kokomo and Indiana more prepared for life, and the ups and downs of normal day living. Thank you.

“Lastly, I want to thank the Kokomo Tribune for printing my letters to the editor while I’ve lived here. You have helped me keep my hobby of 14 years alive. It’s been an honor and pleasure.”
