‘Tribute’ honored service
City Councilman Mike Karickhoff sends this Cheer for First Church of the Nazarene:
“I’d like to offer a Cheer for the presentation ‘A Tribute to Freedom’ that was hosted by the First Church of the Nazarene this past week.
“This musical celebration, produced and performed by the congregation and directed by Pastor Liz Robinson, was an excellent example of patriotism, faith and family and was presented free to the Kokomo community. They blended Gospel music, patriotic music and offered a tribute of honor and respect to all veterans who attended.
“I understand it’s an event that is hosted annually at the church. Next year when they open their new sanctuary at Washington and Lincoln, I hope the entire Kokomo community attends to hear their inspiring message.”
More than ‘working’ suffer
Fred G. Osborn of Kokomo sends this Jeer:
“A big Jeer to Congressman Donnelly who, according to the Kokomo Tribune in ‘grilling’ Walter Lukken of the Commodity Futures Trading Commission, stated, ‘I was looking for answers as to why hard working Hoosiers are suffering more and more at the pump ...’
“It is my understanding that Congressman Donnelly is supposed to be representing all Hoosiers in his district, whether they be working, retired or disabled and on a fixed income or simply unemployed for some reason. Are not these persons also suffering more and more at the pump?”
On behalf of Dean, thanks
Linda Brubaker sends this Cheer:
“The family of Dean Brubaker would like to express its thanks and appreciation to all the friends and family who helped him with his four month struggle with cancer. Whether you said a prayer, sent food, or sent one of the many cards that brightened his day, it was appreciated. Dean looked forward to the phone calls and visits that usually resulted in trips down Memory Lane.
“We would like to thank everyone who had a part in the service honoring Dean’s life. The number of people who came to pay tribute to him awed us. We would especially like to thank Pastor Bill Sheets who conducted the service and also met with Dean to assure him of his place in Heaven.
“Others who honored Dean by being a part of the service were: Todd Burns, Chris Edgington (who shared memories of Dean), Howard Twining and the Pipe Creek VFD, the VFW military burial guard, and the police escort that was provided by Scott Allen. Our thanks to the Guardian Angel Hospice care for sharing the burden of Dean’s physical care. The Pipe Creek VFD Auxiliary and other community members provided the family and friends with a delicious meal following the funeral. Although we grieve, through our faith we are assured that Dean is in a far better place and is without pain.
“Our thanks also go to Chuck Finister who organized a golf outing in Dean’s memory. The outing was held at Leaning Tree Golf Course on June 22. Thank God for the wonderful weather that made the event enjoyable for all of the participants.
“We want to thank all of the golf teams and the sponsors who made the outing possible. After the golfing came fellowship and food. Howard Twining, chief of the Pipe Creek VFD, and members of the department and its auxiliary provided everyone with a cookout.
“We hope that we didn’t exclude anyone, but if we did it was unintentional. To everyone, a great big thank-you.”
Truck does damage
Carolyn Cragun sends this Jeer to the driver of a red truck:
“This letter is for the man in the newer, red Dodge Ram truck with the red topper that came into Top Banana Farm Market and bought two bales of straw. You went around to the back of the market to load your straw, and when you finished loading your straw you backed around to leave, and backed into my car.
“Well, as I’m sure you already know, you severely damaged my hood and bumper and I am having the damage fixed.
“I believe in the old saying that what goes around, comes around. Hope you sleep well at night knowing what you did to my car.”
Clubhouse hosts 75
Janet Knight sends this Cheer on behalf of Apollo Clubhouse:
“Apollo Clubhouse members send a big Cheer to St. Patrick’s Church, Pulse Music and Howard Regional Health System for their donations to the Apollo-hosted dance held June 28 at St. Patrick’s school gym. The Clubhouse-hosted dance was for the State Clubhouse Coalition and included clubhouses from Greenwood, Indianapolis, Marion, Warsaw and Kendallville.
“Seventy-five people attended. St. Patrick’s donated the school gym, set up and took down the table and chairs. Pulse Music donated a sound system. Howard Regional Health System provided door prizes. A Clubhouse member was the DJ, and he spent at least 40 hours preparing.
“Guests walked over to see our clubhouse, and food was provided there. Members prepared and served food, decorated and were greeters and organizers. Cheers to everyone who helped make this a success.”
