Bunker Hill man injured in crash
PERU — A Bunker Hill man was injured Tuesday morning when the vehicle he was driving was rear ended by a semi at U.S. 31 and 100 North.
According to Indiana State Police Sgt. Rick Brown, Terry L. Dean, 58, was driving a 2006 Dodge pickup truck, owned by S.M.P. Utility Resources, north on U.S. 31 when he stopped for a red light. The pickup was struck in the rear by a 2006 International semi driven by Alan M. Watkins, 36, Walkerton, at approximately 11:43 a.m. The semi is owned by Deans Transportation and was pulling an empty trailer.
Dean was transported by ambulance to Dukes Memorial Hospital with a complaint of pain and lacerations to his head.
“This was a high impact crash,” said Sergeant Rick Brown. “It serves as another example of safety restraints reducing the severity of injuries in a crash that could have been a fatality if both drivers had not taken the time buckle their seat belts.”
Northbound U.S. 31 was closed for approximately two hours for cleanup of debris, diesel fuel, and investigation of the crash.
State Police were assisted by Peru Police, Miami County Sheriff Department, New Waverly and Peru fire departments, Dukes EMS and Indiana Department of Transportation.
